SILVER BEAR CENTRE OPENED IN BAWNBOY

Minister for State at the Department of Agriculture and Food (at the time),
Minister Brendan Smith T.D officially opened the Silver Bear Centre in
Bawnboy, Co. Cavan on Friday 2nd March. The new centre is a culmination
of many years planning, hard work and dedication by Anke Morgenroth.
The centre will be used to facilitate Anke’s Teddy Bear Heritage Tour and
will also be available to outside individuals or groups for workshops or
other events. The new centre offers a beautiful, tranquil meeting facility.
The facility which is located in a very scenic area of West Cavan provides an
excellent meeting place for writers, artists, musicians, trainers and families.
With its fully equipped kitchen and wheelchair accessibility, the new centre
is an ideal venue for training workshops, seminars or exhibitions.
The Silver Bear centre was grant aided by Cavan Monaghan Rural Development through the National Rural

The first year of running the new Silver Bear Centre in Bawnboy, Co.Cavan is almost over. It opened up new opportunities and challenges not just for my existing craft business - trading as Bear Essentials but also for other people in different business areas. Here are just some examples of hands-on workshops & events we had:

> Scapbooking workshop by Annamarie Redmond > Styling Workshop by Image Consultant Anita Hanley
> West Cavan Networking Event > Heritage Day
> Summer School in handcrafts and culinary skills including toy, jewellery making, baking and other activities
> Summer School in traditional teddy bear making

This sample of activities brought people from as far as Dublin, North Donegal and Galway for the day to experience the hospitality of the Silver Bear Centre. As a member of CMACN one of the aims is to help each other promote our art and crafts and one way to do so is to teach others our skills - may it be to children or to adults.
Would you like to offer your skills for next year? Maybe you like to team up with somebody and promote a new package idea? Or maybe you have something to offer to make our Heritage Day more fascinating. We promise to help you to promote your workshop through our new website at www.bearessentials.ie and other contacts. If you would like to join one of our upcoming events here are the dates:
15th of December Gingerbread House Making for adults & children 2pm-4pm.
16th of December 11am-6pm Visitor Day at the Silver Bear Centre with complimentary tea and German Stollen. For more information, visit www.bearessentials.ie
