Louise Loughman creates colourful batik wall hangings that can be commissioned to suit your individual style.

Louise studied Art and Design in Galway where she specialised in printed textile design using experimental techniques such as hand painting and batik. Since graduating she has worked in various aspects of textile design including knitwear, theatrical costume and hand weaving.

Batik is an ancient Indonesian craft involving wax resist. Louise has developed a unique style combining her specialist area of silk painting with batik; this craft allows her to experiment fully with colour and texture, thus producing very beautiful and desirable wall hangings.

Louise draws inspiration for her work from various aspects including celtic myths, flora, local buildings and has produced a series based on the architectural heritage of Kilkenny.

Visit Louise in Swallow Studios, a visitor attraction featuring three different Textiles, Handweaving , Rug tufting, and Batik Art.
